Ow, my hands!

HandSo, I haven’t been blogging much of late. There are two main reasons for this. The first is my work-in-progress, the deadline for which is hanging over my head like a sword of Damocles on an ever-thinner thread. With each flip of the calendar page, my heart rate ratchets up and I abandon more things in an effort to finish writing the draft. Blogging tends to get on the “abandoned” list, often because by the time I complete the writing I’m getting paid to do, I can barely come up with a twitter update, much less a whole blog post.

The other thing holding me back ties directly into the first thing. My hands hurt.

After years of working on the couch or in the recliner, I finally decided to get “serious” and start working at a desk.

Big mistake.

Turns out, the desk was too high and the chair wasn’t that great, and I brought upon my poor hands the beginnings of some tendonitis. Fortunately for me, (unfortunately for him) my husband ended up with a pretty serious case of repetitive-stress injury/tendonitis from typing insane amounts on bad desks in law school. He did not pay attention to the problem, nor did he do anything to try to fix it. As a result, there came a day when he could barely hold a fork and couldn’t type a word. It took him a long time to get back to normal, though now he types plenty and eats with utensils and everything.

But it made me super-sensitive to what can happen if one ignores those first owie twinges in the backs of their hands. So, I’ve started a full-blown regimen of massage therapy and chiropractic treatments and stretches and yoga and and and. Part of the regimen includes limiting unnecessary typing. And while I love blogging, part one of this post should explain why it’s not coming first right this minute.

So, when you kindly click over to my website to see what’s new and the answer is a big, fat nothing? Know that it’s not because I don’t love you or that I don’t want to be posting interesting blog things all the time. I’m just trying to write you a new book, and keep my hands intact in the process.

Keep an eye on the site – I promise more posts just as soon as the pain meds and physio kick in.

Don’t exaggerate …. I only SOMETIMES eat with utensils these days. ;)

Feel better!! And take care of your hands — they’re your most important tools now (besides your brain … and boobs (that’s what Lucy would say).

    xoxo

I’d write more but my moms yanking my chain to get off so I’ll say bye for now.
Expect to hear from me often.
    Love, Hannah
P.s. Hope you feel better soon!!

Quick update for everyone – apparently, throwing the kitchen sink at something *does* make a difference. I’m feeling much better!
